For all you law breakers

Two amazing things happen today. My birthday (yep, yup), and the 2012 Film of the Year- Magic Mike opens in theaters. Coincidence? I think not. Enjoy ladies...

The Appy Couple

{image by appycouple}

I'll be the first to say I love a good App but I find myself at a major wedding cross roads with this one. As a coordinator, I love the idea of being able to direct guests to and from site locations. As a designer, I'm slightly offended. Maybe it's the Southerner in me, but I firmly believe in the power of paper.

An invitation does so much more than provide information for the party- it sets the tone. With so much of the world being taken over by digital format for ease and mobility, I'd like to fight to keep the personal aspect of sending paper invitations to guests. However,  I'm open to include area information and attractions in the App.

Paper meet digital, ya'll play.

Mornin' Sunshine!

Who doesn't love a mid day champers and a round of croquet? I LOVE the idea of a sunrise ceremony and casual brunch with guests. Besides, it takes the pressure of waiting around all day for the party off you and your guests! Just because this showdown takes place before the rooster call doesn't mean you can't wear your dream dress (maybe ditch the sky high glitter pumps). Casually classic and no fuss is the theme of the day.

Get the party started with a signature coffee blend before the "I do's" to ensure guests are hyped up for "post- brekkie" game time-complete with boccie ball, horseshoes and sack races.  Can I get an invite?

Keep calm, marry on.

Over the past seven years as a wedding coordinator I've handled more than a few (shall I say) sticky situations? It usually starts with an email from the bride requesting advice on how to deal with her soon to be mother in law that wants to wear black to the wedding or insists on having her tone deaf sister sing during the ceremony. However, more often than not, that pesky little thing called "the budget" is the root of most uncomfortable moments during the planning process.  Here's the bottom line for your bottom line: Weddings are blissful, joyous and magical occasions but they can be extremely stressful at times. So before you blow your lid over the wrong shade of blush, bite your lip and pick up Miss Manners' Guide To A Surprisingly Dignified Wedding. Seriously the holey grail to all things wedding from form to fashion covering all the crazy in between. It's smartly written and gets down to the nitty gritty so you can spend more time focusing on things like "adoring your fiance" and less time on back pedaling out of a potentially awkward situation with your soon to be  out-laws  in-laws.  Trust me, there's room in the budget to buy the book here.

Conflict free, way to be!

Do you know what's insanely gorgeous and happens to be the hippest thing on the wedding block? Raw diamonds. Yep, feast your eyes on these beuts.

Mind  you these are but a mere sampling of what Brilliant Earth and Diamond In the Rough have to offfer. Two of the hippest- socially responsible, green, and conflict free companies I've been fortunate enough to come across. You can read more about the conflict free practices of the company and their fair trade materials on the Brilliant Earth site.  I strongly encourage checking them out if you are in the market for a diamond. Now when you show off that bling you can also brag about being socially responsible. That's pretty solid if you ask me.

I know, right?! I just couldn’t resist creating a board surrounding this sultry bestseller. Who doesn’t love the perfect shade of demure pink enveloped in a warm Steele? Enter Edward—I mean Robert Pattinson—as Christian Grey. Look at those steely grey eyes. Gorge.

It’s enough to make me blush...seriously.

Here's how it all goes down:
The groom and his men will enjoy an afternoon of rowing before getting outfitted in their custom grey suits for the evening.  A feminine yet classic dress is perfect for this intimate celebration of close friends and family under a pergola of branches and foliage. It only makes sense that well-known Portland designer Sarah Seven dons the bridesmaids in the perfect blush confection.

As we know, Mr. Grey loves to “woo” his lady (me) with extravagant gifts so what’s more perfect than diamond drop earrings and a love letter that rivals Voltaire? Sigh….

At dusk, guests will be greeted by champagne and artisan cheeses before they take their seat for a 7 course meal (prepared by some world renowned chef that Christian will obviously fly in.) Following congratulatory toasts, dancing commences under the stars—featuring a special guest appearance by Grammy award winning artist Adele to serenade the couple's first dance.

On a design note: I adore how the sepia and champagne tones bridge the gap of becoming overly feminine with the right amount of amber and gold to play year round AND at any time of the day.
Simply stunning if I do say so myself,  I’ll toast my Bollinger to that and dream about my Christian Grey.
